The Geckos 24hr Challenge has become the Poziere ’ s Endurance Challenge , and RSM 3Bde WO1 Dave Lehr will conduct a section level military skills competition this month which will also count towards the Commander ’ s Trophy . Add the swimming and athletics carnivals and the argument for the trophy will be decided by inter-unit competitions conducted throughout the whole year . While all Army units in the region are invited to compete in all the competitive events conducted during the year by 3Bde , only the eight Brigade units will earn points towards the Commander ’ s Trophy . The four traditional Commander ’ s Trophy events have been completed ( shooting , obstacle course , cross country and orienteering ), and the four “ new ” events will be conducted throughout the remainder of the year . At the halfway mark , 1RAR has a handy 50-point lead , dropping only 30pts out of a possible 400 to score 370pts . The Big Blue One recorded second placings in shooting , the obstacle course and cross country and won the orienteering . Recovering well after a disappointing last place finish in the shooting ( 30pts ) is 3RAR with wins in the obstacle course ( just four seconds ahead of 1RAR ) and cross country and second place in the orienteering . In third place with 290pts is current trophy holders , 2RAR , but , now back from extended exercise commitments leading up to , and including , the Pacific Rim exercises in Hawaii , the Men In Black have four events to make ground on their rivals . Behind them are : 3CSSB 270pts , 2Cav Regt 250pts , 3CSR and 4Regt RAA 170pts , and 3CER 150pts . The next Commander ’ s Trophy event is this weekend - the Pozieres Endurance Challenge . Brigade sports officer MAJ Mick Gallegos said the eight-event format provided interest all year round and would mean the last carnival of the year - athletics - would hold just as much significance and importance as the shooting competition traditionally conducted early in the year .
