3Bde excels
Last year’s Commander’s Trophy winners
1RAR took the win with a points tally of 1408
ahead of 2RAR (1358) and 3CSSB (1242).
The best individual scores in the AMP were
PTE Jackson Hooper 1RAR (255 pts), PTE Scott
Clark 1RAR and PTE Benjamin Rue 2RAR
(244), and PTE Grant Coad 1RAR (242).
CFN Toby Woodward 3CSSB (242 pts) won the AAF
competition ahead of PTE Matthew McInnes-Smith
1RAR (135) and PTE Nicholas Plemenuk 1RAR (127).
The 3Bde soldiers’ performance at AASAM
confi rmed the quality of the Brigade competition.
AASAM this year placed an increased emphasis
on F89 matches and combat fi tness (16kg of
armour, webbing and helmet was compulsory).
Competing as a mixed team for the Brigade
matches, the 3Bde team won the Service Rifl e,
Service Pistol and Brigade Weapons trophies.
Weeks of training with EF88, F89 and
9mm Self-Loading Pistol (SLP) paid off
for 1RAR in the unit level matches.
They won an impressive six of the AASAM
unit matches (including Champion Infantry
Battalion, the Unit Teams Weapons Championship
and Pistol Teams Aggregate) and fi nished
second in a further three unit matches.
The Brigade was well-represented in the
fi nal knockout competition to determine
the Champion Shot of the Army.
The top 20 fi nishers shoot it out engaging a variety
of targets from 400m to 25m with EF88 and F89.
There were nine 3Bde soldiers in the top 20 and
the eventual winner - BDR Nick Latham 1RTB
- was until last year, posted to 4Regt RAA.
CPL Jake McDermott 3CSSB dominated
the competition at an individual level with
an overall fi rst place leading into the fi nal
Champion Shot of the Army match.
PTE Callum Pritchett 2RAR was narrowly beaten
by BDR Latham 1RTB for the Champion Shot title.
Four of the nine who qualifi ed for the
fi nal match were 1RAR soldiers, three
from 2RAR and two from 3CSSB.
