MAJGEN McLachlan said 3RAR, with the aid of their
allies, fought a Chinese division to a standstill at Kapyong.
The Battalion lost 32 men killed in action,
59 wounded and three captured.
The enemy killed in action were estimated to be 500-600.
The US Presidential citation was for gallantry,
determination and esprit de corps for accomplishing its
mission under extremely diffi cult and hazardous conditions.
“These actions set it apart and above
other units participating in the same
campaign,” MAJGEN McLachlan said.
