Three generations of students
THE Ann Roberts School of Dance turns 60 this year and will welcome some third generation students . With the founder ’ s daughter Jane Pirani at the helm and a teaching staff of 25 , those students will be dancing in the footsteps of their mothers and grandmothers who also learnt at the school . The school offers Ballet , Tap , Jazz , Highland , Song and Dance , Contemporary , Heels and Hip Hop . Whether you want a career in dance , or you just want to have fun and keep fit , there are classes for all ages . Students are prepared for examinations in Ballet – RAD , Tap and Jazz – ADA and Highland – NDA . The school also participates in competitions such as eisteddfodaux and showcases . Numerous alumni have followed their dreams to become professional dancers in companies in Australia , and overseas , and some have
come back to be part of the teaching staff to share their knowledge and experience . The Pirani Hall studios in Fletcher Street have just been renovated for this milestone . Classes are also offered in five suburban centres . It might be 60 years old , but the school is looking forwards by embracing new techniques and teaching methods without renouncing tradition and always maintaining safe practices . Teachers regularly attend seminars to keep up with new trends . The school is also the home of Ulysses Dancers , a proam contemporary company , and the Shaughnettes , a show girl group available for functions and shows . Each of these groups offers opportunities to perform in professional shows . You can join the school and be part of the celebrations .
