Sniper Concentration
SNIPERS from 2nd Commando
Regiment and 2RAR bagged the podium positions at the RAR Sniper Concentration hosted by 3RAR in November and December last year . The 2Cdo Regt team won with 2317 points , clear of 2RAR teams - LCPL Jordan Mann and LCPL Liam Kiernan ( 2273pts ) 2nd , and PTE Samuel Newton and PTE Andrew Goodson ( 2238pts ) 3rd . PTE Newton , won the top shot ahead of PTE Dylan Smith 3RAR 2nd , and PTE Stuart Brown 6RAR 3rd . The 14 sniper pairs included teams from the Papua New Guinea Defence Force and the Army ’ s two Commando regiments and a team from the Queensland Police Service . The 10 day competition was conducted at Mt Stuart and at the Townsville Field Training Area at High Range . It concluded with a hands-on defence industry day where snipers browsed displays of the latest advances in equipment and weaponry . Co-ordinator WO2 Joshua Bowden said the concentration provided an opportunity for snipers to learn from one another , as well as to test themselves against their peers . One of the highlights was a shoot using robotic targets moving in a lifelike pre-determined pattern . The robots , mounted on a fourwheeled platform moved about at speeds close to walking pace and were almost life-size . Wind added to the interesting challenges presented to the teams during the competition .
