NQ ’ s 2017 officer recruits
BRIG Field said while the officer cadets were joining either the Air Force or the Army , they were also joining the ADF . “ You will realise we train and fight as a joint team ,” BRIG Field said . “ As you go through your training to become an officer , you will make friends . “ They are friends you wlil keep for life . “ Some of the people you meet will be Best Man or Matron of Honour at your wedding and Godparents to your children . “ That ’ s how important these people are to you .” BRIG Field said the 16 NQ ADFA appointees would join 71 Air Force and 157 Army colleagues at the academy . “ I think it ’ s important to recognise that this year ’ s intake includes nine appointees of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent . “ There are 28 women in the Air Force intake and 39 in Army .” BRIG Field said he thought the diversity evident in those numbers was important for the future of the ADF . He said 25 per cent of the commanding officers of 3Bde units were women , a positive for the Brigade and the units they led . The Navy trainee officers will train at HMAS Creswell at Jervis Bay while the Air Force and Army Cadet Officers will be at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra .
