however, this all adds to the authentic
experience and charm of the place.
You should get a kick out of visiting
Ravenswood if you love drives through
the countryside, historical remains
in the street, grand old buildings,
local history museums, interesting
locals, quirky knick knack shops,
self-guided tours, and ghost stories.
Back in its heyday in the late 1800s
to the early 1900s, Ravenswood was a
bustling mining town, digging up gold
riches, and with quite a few thousand
thirsty miners supporting 13 pubs.
Of those, two are still standing.
Both were built in 1902, and with a
ghostly tale or two should you happen
to have a yarn with the publicans.
The Railway Hotel, also has
a little secret that sparkles.
Its bricks were moulded from local
clay, and in the right light, a few
bricks will wink with glints of gold.
The Imperial Hotel, has quite a
few ghostly stories, and is a popular
site for wannabe ghost busters.
The architecture in the Imperial
is stunning and grand, more than
what you would expect from an
old turn of the century pub.
The internal stairway is magnifi cent,
however, the red cedar and leadlight
bar will defi nitely be a spot where
you should stop for an ale or two.
More than just a ferry service...
