OREGON NSCA STATE CLINIC
The Oregon National Strength and
Conditioning Association (NSCA) State
Clinic was held on May 10, 2014 and
had over 115 people in attendance. The
people in attendance were from a variety
of professional backgrounds, ranging
from strength and conditioning coaches
at different levels, physical therapists,
chiropractors, personal trainers, athletic
trainers, sport coaches, and students. There
were also a number of well accomplished
collegiate and private strength and
conditioning coaches in attendance trying
to improve their knowledge base, which is
something that the NSCA always strives
for from its members—continuing one’s
education to advance the profession.
The speakers and topics included: Jim
Radcliffe from the University of Oregon
spoke about the systematic approach
to improving movement qualities in all
athletes, Michael Conroy from United
States of America Weightlifting (USAW)
performed a hands-on presentation
covering how to teach the snatch and the
clean, Patrick Ward from Optimum Sports
Performance and Nike spoke on athlete
monitoring and data collection, Brad Scott
6
from the University of Portland spoke on
how to implement athlete monitoring in a
team setting, and Kyle Holland from Team
EXOS spoke on mixed martial arts (MMA)
training progressions.
The fewer number of presenters allowed
for the attendees to be more actively
engaged and provided more questions and
answers. The clinic was very well received
by the attendees and other presenters. The
2014 Oregon NSCA State Clinic laid down
the foundation for continuing education
leading to 2015.
