One of the ways evidence based practice is used in my practice is the use of the
PulmonaryToilet on all trauma patients while in the hospital and encouraged after
discharge home. This prevents pneumonia in the patients with chest trauma or
with fresh surgical incisions. They tend to stay in bed and not deep breath and
cough. Equally important is regular oral hygiene and tracheal suctioning. All of our
trauma patients get regular oral airway hygiene, tracheal airway hygiene and
