Mononucleosis, also known as Mono or the Kissing disease, is caused, primarily,
by the Epstein-Barr virus(EBV). It was first discovered in 1964 by use of an
electron microscope and was named the Kissing Disease due to the overwhelming
incidence of Mononucleosis after kissing someone with the virus. The Epstein-
Barr virus is a widespread human herpes virusby age 35, almost everyone has
antibodies to EBV, indicating past infections (James, M, 2014). While there is
currently no vaccine to protect against infectious mononucleosis there are several
things you can do to protect yourself and others....
