These webinars were a tremendous success because they are a budget- conscious yet highly impactful medium for providing broad access to content and messaging related to NPW to a geographically diverse audience. The webinars that took place during NPW 2017 were designed to provide technical assistance and resources to SAMHSA CSAP grantees—state and local community-based organizations that raise awareness and educate communities on prevention topics—and encourage these organizations to plan innovative NPW events in their communities. Each webinar featured presenters from Federal agencies and other experts, including NPW partners, who shared their expertise and addressed questions from webinar participants. The webinars had a great reach and impact: More than 2,000 people registered for all four webinars, collectively. Participants hailed from nearly all 50 states, including more than 500 CSAP grantees. The team received an abundance of positive feedback from webinar participants, NPW partners, and other collaborating organizations, showing the value and influence of these programs. “Thank you for providing programs such as this one. I did not know about the Jed Foundation and the settogo.org website. As a mother of a freshman in college, it is good to know that such information is out there.” 22 —Jeanne Draughon 2017 OUTCOMES REPORT Publications NPW Wristband and Online Toolkit NPW offers the perfect opportunity for SAMHSA to promote its rich portfolio of publications that address prevention from multiple angles and for diverse audiences. The Prevention Resources for Building Healthy Communities catalog showcased these products to the many audiences who work in the prevention field.  For NPW 2017, the team compiled materials for inclusion on a wristband and an online toolkit for partners, working group members, family, youth, prevention professionals, and all other audience members so they could easily access helpful prevention resources. SAMHSA and the team used updated National Survey on Drug Use and Health data to re-release Focus on Prevention for NPW and make this resource available in the SAMHSA Store online. A highlight of the publications effort for NPW involved the release of the National Prevention Week 2017 Resource Calendar, designed to help prevention advocates as they plan their original and exciting events. The 52-week calendar features a countdown to NPW 2017 and offers both NPW tools and other SAMHSA resources, making it indispensable for advocates even after NPW. The calendar also spotlights other national observances that promote prevention efforts and mental health throughout the year. The calendar’s welcoming design encourages use by anyone in the field. “The meeting was very informative. I appreciated the diversity with the number of speakers. I enjoyed listening to this webinar and learned a lot from it. Thank you.” —Hamd Alsubait The toolkit included NPW fact sheets, event ideas, a planning checklist, and tips for planning an event. In addition, there also were materials from the Underage Drinking Prevention Education Initiatives, such as The Sound of Your Voice video, Alcohol’s Effects On the Brain app, and National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) college drinking fact sheets, as well as “Talk. They Hear You.” print and video PSAs. Finally, materials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute on Drug Abuse were included to address the risks of marijuana use, prescription opioid use, underage drinking, and smoking. The wristband toolkits were distributed at SAMHSA’s Prevention Day and the NPW 2017 Kick-off Event, as well as to partners who requested more for their organizations. “I found the meeting to be extremely helpful for my practice. I work with problem gambling addiction clients, which is also a disease. I will be following up and looking at many of the websites that were mentioned in the presentation.” —Roger Olsen 2017 OUTCOMES REPORT 23
