STATE BOARD OF DENTISTRY YEAR-END UPDATE
Over the past year, the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry( SBOD) devoted time to discussing changes to the licensing process and emerging trends in dentistry, some of which may eventually be addressed through proposed rulemaking.
Some state board committees met to discuss specific scope of practice issues, which may result in offering recommendations to the full SBOD on whether to initiate the regulatory process with proposed rulemaking for dental offices and facilities. The board is working on proposed rulemaking on regulating mobile dental units to ensure that they meet standards of care and that they are in full compliance with board regulations on maintaining patient records, among other things. This proposed rulemaking will likely start its way through the regulatory process in 2026.

PDA’ s Government Relations Committee closely monitors all developments and is prepared to offer recommendations for amending proposed rulemaking before it takes effect.
