Commonwealth Applies for Rural Health Transformation Program Funding
In September, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services( CMS) opened its application process for states to apply for funding through the Rural Health Transformation( RHT) Program, authorized by the federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The purpose of this program is to address disparities in access to care and health outcomes for individuals living in rural areas. All 50 states are eligible for a piece of the pie: $ 50 billion over FY 2026-2030($ 10 billion annually). Approved states will receive a 50 percent equal share, while CMS has the discretion to allocate the remaining 50 percent based on factors such as the proportion of health care facilities and the state of rural hospitals in rural areas, among other things.
