Dr . Jasmine Shafagh Named New Associate Editor
Dr . Jasmine Shafagh is the newest member of the Pennsylvania Dental Journal staff , joining the publication as an associate editor . She also has been named the new vice president for the American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists .
Dr . Shafagh recently accepted the ICD Journalism Award ( Newsletter Honorable Mention Award ) for the Dental Society of Chester County and Delaware County for their 2022 publication at the American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists Annual Meeting . She served as the editor of that publication from 2018-2023 and received their dental society ’ s Recognition Award in May of 2023 . Dr . Shafagh serves on the Board of Governors for the Dental Society of Chester County and Delaware County , is a mentor for the PDA Leadership Academy and is a member of PDA ’ s Communication and Public Relations Advisory Group as well as the Diversity , Equity and Inclusion Committee .
She is a graduate of PDA ’ s inaugural Leadership Academy class and was one of PDA ’ s 2023 10 Under 10 Under Award winners .
Journal Collects ICD Awards
The International College of Dentists USA Section selected the Pennsylvania Dental Journal for three awards in the 2023 Journalism Awards and Editor Dr . Steve Radack received the awards in Orlando during the American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists Annual Meeting in October . This marks the fifth consecutive year that the Journal has been honored in the ICD Journalism Awards .
The Journal received the Golden Pen Division 1 Honorable Mention Award for “ Turning the Tide of Opioid Addiction ” ( March / April 2022 issue ); Outstanding Cover Division 1 Award ( March / April 2022 issue ); and the Humanitarian Service Division 1 Award , “ Bridging the Gap Between Health Care Disparities ” ( January / February 2022 issue ).
“ It was a true honor to be in Orlando for the AADEJ meeting to accept the International College of Dentists journalism awards ,” Dr . Radack said . “ And it is truly my privilege to be the editor of this multi-award-winning publication .”
