Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh
EXPANDS ITS REACH
On August 5-6 , more than a thousand volunteers came together at David L . Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh for the Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh clinic .
A total of 1,300 dental team members and lay volunteers donated free care to 1,465 patients . This year , vision and hearing exams were also provided at the clinic .
The mission ( sponsored by A Call to Care ) started in 2017 , and in that time has more than doubled the number of patients seen at the event compared to its first year .
“ With that expansion to eye care and hearing we have been able to treat a variety of health needs for these underserved folks , the homeless , the working poor , people who have a need for vital health care ,” said Keith Young , chairman , A Call to Care . “ This year was very successful . We treated 975 people for dental work , we gave away 229 pairs of hearing aids and we gave away 681 pairs of eyeglasses .”
Young said Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh has truly become part of the fabric of Pittsburgh . “ It ’ s becoming extremely well known ,” he said .
