◆ FIRST INDUSTRY JOB ?
I started in the apartment locating business during its heyday . What a fun job ! I made many great friends that I ’ m lucky to be in touch with today .
◆ PIVOTAL MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER ?
The crash of 2008 changed my education and career goals . I had a midlife crisis which led to many positive experiences in life . I moved from the vendor side to the owner side with Greystar . That was the smartest move I ever made . I ’ ve had the most opportunity to learn and grow here with so many terrific leaders .
◆ WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT THE MULTIFAMILY INDUSTRY ?
Overall , I can ’ t think of anything I would change about the Industry . It ’ s filled with remarkable caring people that work hard to create a home for renters . However , I would like to see us embrace automation and technology at a higher level to continue to find easier ways to get things done .
◆ TV SHOW BEST DESCRIBES YOUR MANAGEMENT STYLE ?
I really like Barbara Corcoran and enjoy watching Shark Tank . She was told she couldn ’ t be successful because she is a woman . She is successful ! I like her because she is not afraid to be hard when the person needs this , yet she knows when empathy is necessary .
◆ MOST IMPACTFUL PERSON IN YOUR CAREER ?
My father . He had the best work ethic ever . He was a successful businessman and real estate agent . He was very giving and loved to help young people find a home . And when he failed , he got up , brushed himself off , and tried again . And he was brilliant at reinventing himself when needed .
◆ FAVORITE TEAM-BUILDING ACTIVITY ?
I love team lunches and outings when I have a chance to hear about what is happening in their lives . My team is fantastic , and each person is unique , with different passions and interests . I ’ m always entertained by listening to what they are up to , and I always learn something new .
◆ IDEAL LONG WEEKEND ?
My ideal weekend includes a little of everything – brunch with friends , hiking or golf with family , reading , a business research catch-up , and a few podcasts . www . aamdhq . org NOV / DEC 2022 TRENDS | 57
