Why PADPAC Matters (Continued) Contributions are strategically donated, for maximum effect, to House and Senate leaders, members of key committees and elected officials with close ties to PDA members. We are proud that so many members of PDA are also members of PADPAC. We are one of the most influential PACs in Harrisburg, and our excellent reputation is the direct result of dentists’ support throughout the Commonwealth. As a member of PADPAC, your concerns are important and need to be heard. Please consider including a contribution to PADPAC in your annual membership dues. Joining PADPAC will keep you informed on regulatory issues in Harrisburg. You will have opportunities to attend events where you can express your concerns to elected officials. In addition, we will update you with our bi-weekly PADPAC newsletter, which keeps you informed of events we attend, political and legislative news throughout Pennsylvania and statewide and national coverage of pertinent health care reform developments. Due to state and federal laws, PDA categorizes PADPAC funds into two types. Hard dollars are contributions made via personal check or credit card. Only hard dollars may be used for political campaign contributions. Soft dollars are contributions made with a corporate check or credit card. Soft dollars may only be used for administrative purposes such as assisting district or local dental societies with a fundraising event. 32 NOV E M B E R/DE CE M BER 2017 | P EN N S YLVA N IA D EN TA L J O UR NAL Why should you contribute to PADPAC? People, including members of the General Assembly, like to help those who help them. Showing your tangible support, via a contribution through PADPAC, goes a long way to show senators and representatives that you want them to succeed and they, in turn, will help us succeed. It is through hard dollars that your lobbyists, staff and members can meet legislators in settings that grow lasting relationships on PDA’s behalf. Your contribution helps PDA fight for you and your patients. We truly can’t do it without you. Just like in the practice of dentistry, preventing a legislative or regulatory problem is less costly, and easier, than correcting a problem. Contributing today makes tomorrow’s problems smaller. You can also make an appointment to visit legislators in Harrisburg or their district offices. If you meet with your elected officials before you have an issue you will already have developed a relationship and it will make discussing your issue much easier. You can offer to be a resource for them. You know more about dentistry and your patients than anyone else alive. Senators and representatives know a little about a lot of topics. Most are very willing to chat in a non-confrontational setting about topics in which they are not experts. If they have questions in the future they will reach out to you for your expertise and guidance. This is invaluable strategic forward planning as critical dentistry issues come up for a vote or legislators grapple with constituent issues involving your area of expertise. Your passion for your profession and your patients is your greatest strength. Our greatest strength is you – our members. Together we can be an unbeatable team. As with any team we need to support each other. Please consider making a contribution to PADPAC today. The sooner you give the sooner we, and the entire team, win.
