Ambulatory Anesthesia: Case based focused review of techniques and potential office complications Presented by Stuart E. Lieblich, DMD, FACD, FICD
4 CE credits recommended for dentists who hold an unrestricted or restricted permit I for anesthesia or use the services of an anesthesia provider with an unrestricted or restricted permit I.
The provision of ambulatory anesthesia is an important component of many dental practices. A contemporary review of anesthesia including a discussion of patient evaluation, medications and determining who can be treated in an office setting will be discussed. Actual case scenarios will be reviewed to illustrate various issues throughout the day. Included in the discussions will be some recommendations on local anesthetic use and integrating oral sedation into a practice.
Upon completion of the course, the participant will:
• Understand basic medical aspects of common systemic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurologic, and immunologic diseases and how they impact on our anesthesia options.
• Review common and some uncommon medical and anesthetic emergencies that may occur in the office.
• Provide oral sedation techniques.
• Review management protocols of common medical emergencies that may occur in the office via actual case-based scenarios.
• Appropriate monitoring for dental anesthesia cases and interpretation of monitors
Sponsored in part by the Pennsylvania Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
NOTE: The four credit hours can be applied toward the hours needed to renew an Unrestricted Permit and Restricted Permit I. In addition, the hours can be applied to the State Board of Dentistry( SBOD) requirement that non-permit holder licensees who maintain an office in which general anesthesia, deep sedation or conscious sedation is administered shall complete five hours of SBOD-approved courses related to the modality of anesthesia that is administered in the office.
