Notice from the Department of Health
On Aug. 25, 2016, the Pennsylvania Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PA PDMP) launched, making the system
available for patient query. The PA PDMP office witnessed record-breaking participation on our first day compared to
launches in other states, and the PA PDMP office continues to see registration numbers increase by the thousands each
day. As our user base continues to grow, we want to take this time to provide some helpful tips and things to remember.
Don’t miss these important registration tips!
If you’ve not already registered for the PA PDMP, please do so here: pennsylvania.pmpaware.net. Keep in mind the
following helpful tips to ensure a smooth registration process:
• Review our Terms and Conditions before registering.
• Prescribers: Enter your personal DEA number, not your employer’s DEA number.
• Enter your Pennsylvania professional license number.
• Do not enter any dashes in your DEA, professional license, or NPI number.
• Double-check for typing errors before submitting.
The PDMP office is currently reviewing all pending registrations. All pending registrants will receive an email notification
once the registration has been reviewed.
How do you talk with patients about addiction?
We’ve been listening to you. And we’ve added additional, important information to our clinical resources to assist you in
having difficult conversations with your patients about addiction. These are available for you to utilize when needed. They
also include prescribing guidelines, screening tools and treatment resources. We will continue to add to this list and keep it
current. You may also find additional valuable resources for prescribers, dispensers and patients at www.doh.pa.gov/
PDMP, including:
• Tutorials on how to register, authorize delegates and use the PA PDMP system;
• A tutorial on how to conduct patient searches in the system and identify “red flag” behavior;
• Frequently asked questions to stay informed on the most asked-about topics; and
• Patient rights.
How do you connect patients to resources they need?
DOH wishes to also inform you about another valuable resource: Single County Authorities (SCAs). Through contracts
with the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP), SCAs are drug and alcohol service hubs that receive state
and federal dollars to plan, coordinate, manage, and implement the delivery of drug and alcohol prevention, intervention,
treatment, and treatment-related services (such as case management and recovery support) at the local level. This
includes a continuum of drug and alcohol treatment services. SCAs will work with you to offer assistance to your
patients who need such services. The Department of Health urges you to take advantage of SCAs. Typically, SCAs serve
individuals who reside within the SCA’s geographic region, but this is not always the case. To locate an SCA, please visit
https://apps.ddap.pa.gov/GetHelpNow/CountyServices.aspx.
As always, we encourage you to stay up-to-date on all PA PDMP information by visiting www.doh.pa.gov/PDMP. The PA
PDMP office constantly updates our website with new information.
For technical questions regarding registration or data submission, please contact support directly at 855-572-4767
(855-5PA-4PMP). Technical assistance is currently available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
Thank you for your commitment to reducing the drug abuse epidemic in Pennsylvania.
