Pharma sector report 2016
The Spanish pharma sector:
Accelerating transformation
Political stagnation in Spain in 2016 increased pressure on the pharmaceutical
sector, which is engaged in a process of transformation and adaptation in order
to ensure its sustainability and improve its public reputation
27 January, Madrid
Despite limited opSortunties for growth in the pharmaceutical industry – a problem that
has affected the sector for two decades – it remains the fourth biggest sector by volume
of business worldwide, behind technology, financial and consumer businesses.
Therefore, it remains a bigger industry than energy, telecommunications and automotive,
for example. The responsibilities of legal directors in the pharmaceutical industry are
increasing, making it a role that requires specialisation and a continuous updating on the
key regulatory changes.
Iberian Lawyer, in collaboration with Bird & Bird, has conducted market research involving
a select group of lawyers and compliance officers from the pharmaceutical industry and
will present the results, which cover the main changes and challenges legal directors in
the pharmaceutical industry are having to face.
