Dear Greta,

Ask Greta

I am 18 and my girlfriend is 16. We have been together for two years. We are both very much in love and are talking about getting married after college. Of course, we plan on going to the same school, although I ' ll be going away first. A few weeks ago, she was away with her parents for the weekend. My friends invitted me to a party they were having. While I was there, I met another girl. I was very attracted to her and we had a great time just talking and getting to know each other. I didn ' t think much of it that night, but now I feel extremely guilty because I can ' t stop thinking about it. I know this girl would like to go out with me, since a friend confided that after the party. I feel very mixed up about this. What ' s worse, I kind of regret not being able to go out with this girl. Should I confess to my girlfriend about what happened? I ' m afraid she ' ll break up with me, and I really do love her.

Dear Confused,
You have been going out with this girl since you were 16, and that ' s a very tender age to be so deeply involved. Now, you ' re on your way to college. For both your sakes, lessen the intensity of this relationship by making it non-exclusive. It ' s a good idea for both of you to date others. It doesn ' t mean you don ' t love each other. It simply means you are going to take some time to get to know other people and expand your horizons. This will allow both of you to decide if you have a love that will last into your adulthood.
