LIFE SKILLS
Students in Learning support or Life Skills classes are able to get some very hands-on experiences . The overall designs of the classes are to help teach special needs students how to express themselves and act as responsible , kind , and helpful young adults . These courses not only focus on the level of school curriculum , which fit the student ’ s educational needs , but also focuses on daily living skills . The Learning Support World History and Learning Support Science classes have been having a little extra fun with the fall harvesting season tying it into learning in the classrooms .
Mrs . Rager ’ s World History class is studying trading and marketing . They are taught that with trading they will have the ability to have some financial stability and peace of mind that we all strive for . The class recently traveled to Northhill Orchard and Supply ( which is similar to a market ) and picked their own apples . They experienced what a market looks like and what they offer to customers . Once they returned to the school they used some of their apples to cook with . They made apples chunks and waffles and enjoyed every bite .
Ms . Shady ’ s Science class focuses on the physical science in the world around them . They were able to pick pumpkins at a local farm . After they ’ ve had some autumn fun painting them , they will dissect the pumpkins to examine the seeds and the pulp . Ms . Shady plans to talk with her students about the cycles of pumpkin seeds , then teach them how to process the pulp into puree . The class will be baking pumpkin seeds to sample , and will then begin making pumpkin pie and cupcakes .
