PRESIDENT’ S MESSAGE

PRESIDENT’ S MESSAGE

Dear Members:
Jack Rice 2026-27 PBCBA President
As we send a heartfelt thank you to Carla for her incredible dedication and leadership as our outgoing Executive Director, I am excited to introduce Candice Disorbo as our new Executive Director. Candice spent the last 16 years leading the Orange County Bar Association, but she grew up right here in Palm Beach County. In fact, she told me this move feels much more like coming home than starting over. To help everyone get to know her, I asked Candice to jump into the hot seat for a quick, candid Q & A. Her answers on the following pages show exactly why we are so lucky to have her. Candice is humble, collaborative, and has a great sense of humor. Please join me in welcoming her home!
Best,-Jack
A Candid Conversation with Candice Disorbo
After sixteen years with the Orange County Bar Association, Candice Disorbo is our new Executive Director. To help members get to know her, Jack Rice asked Candice to sit down for a candid Q & A.
What is your idea of a perfect Saturday morning and of a perfect morning before Bench Bar Conference?
CD: A Saturday with no plans. On Bench Bar morning, no surprises. Both are equally rare.
After 16 years in Orlando with the
Orange County Bar Association, what was your greatest fear about trading Central Florida for the coast?
CD: No fears! I grew up in Palm Beach County, so this feels more like coming home than starting over.
What is the trait you most admire in a lawyer?
CD: I admire humility in a lawyer because it reflects an understanding that there is always something to learn from others.
What is the trait you most deplore in a committee meeting?
CD: A meeting without an agenda. Bonus points if it could have been an email.
Having started your career after earning your Certified Paralegal and Florida Registered Paralegal credentials, what do you consider the most overrated virtue in the legal profession?
CD: The ability to work around the clock. Being effective matters more than being perpetually busy.
What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery: I-4 traffic in July or hunting for parking in downtown West Palm 4 minutes before a Bar event?
CD: I-4 traffic, hands down.
Which words or phrases do you most overuse at the office?
CD:“ Let ' s pivot” and“ not the hill to die on.” Usually in the same conversation.
On what occasion do you lie, or at least plead the Fifth?
CD: When someone asks if I have a favorite board member.
From overseeing award-winning programs to leading one of the state ' s largest voluntary bars, what do you consider your greatest professional achievement?
CD: Modernizing the Lawyer Referral and Information Service, and seeing the difference it made for both the organization and the public.
Who is your hero?
CD: I don ' t have one specific hero. I admire anyone who uses their influence, privilege, or platform to advocate for those whose voices might otherwise go unheard.
Which historical figure, legal or otherwise, do you most identify with?
CD: Betty White. She embraced change, stayed true to herself, and never lost her sense of humor.
What talent, completely unrelated to bar administration, would you most like to have?
CD: Any musical ability whatsoever.
Where in Palm Beach County would you most like to spend an uninterrupted afternoon?
CD: On the beach with a good book.
What treasured possession will you be bringing to your office at PBCBA?
CD: A framed photo of my son and me from our most recent trip together.
What do you most value in a Board Member?
CD: Someone who brings a different perspective, values teamwork, and is willing to jump in when needed.
What is the quality you most admire in a Bar President and, how high does red hair rank on that list?
CD: Red hair is obviously a strong start, but collaboration and a good sense of humor are right up there.
What is your current state of mind? CD: Excited and ready to get started. What is your motto? CD:“ The only way out is through.”
As we look ahead to this next chapter under your leadership, what do you most look forward to building alongside our members, and what is the best way for a member to break the ice when they meet you?
CD: I ' m looking forward to getting to know our members, hearing their ideas, and building on what makes this Bar special. And please just come say hello!
