consider how you can help others strengthen their readiness as well. Maybe it’ s helping a neighbor set up an emergency kit, checking that someone’ s flashlight works or hosting a neighborhood watch gathering.
These gestures not only improve preparedness but also strengthen the trust and connection that make our community special.
For those heading south for the winter, take time now to secure your home and share your contact info with a trusted neighbor. For those staying through the colder months, make sure you know who’ s nearby in case you need help— or can offer it.
Closing thoughts
As we gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving season, let’ s be thankful not just for what we have, but for the resilience that comes from caring for one another. Preparedness is more than a checklist; it’ s a reflection of gratitude— a quiet promise that we’ re ready to safeguard the people and places we cherish most.
On behalf of the Emergency Preparedness and Public Safety Committee, thank you for your continued participation in our drills, meetings, and community safety efforts. Each small step you take toward readiness makes Charbonneau stronger, safer, and more resilient for everyone.
Wishing you a safe, warm and grateful November.

Attend upcoming talk on decorations

As I am writing this, we are still looking forward to our October luncheon and program portraying Georgiana Pittock. We try to present a variety of programs and, on Nov. 10, we will go in a

different direction with a presentation by Jennifer
Boss of Decorating Den. The title of her talk will be“ Color Trends and Design Styles.” Even if, like most of us, you are not planning a major redecoration, little changes and touches can make a difference. As the
days grow darker and wetter, early November is a nice time to get together and visit with other ladies in the community. It would be fun to talk about the color trends and styles from when we were all setting up our first apartments or houses. Anyone remember raking shag rugs? What were we thinking! Chef Mitche of G Gourmet will be catering the luncheon, which will feature shrimp scampi. Sign up in the book in the Activity Center closet by noon on Tuesday, Nov. 4. If you need an alternative to shrimp, Chef Mitche can accommodate that. Make a note in the sign-up book. Payment by cash or check goes in the lockbox on the wall of the closet, just inside the door. The cost is $ 32 for members and $ 37 for guests.
We are looking ahead to our festive holiday brunch, which will be held on Monday, Dec. 8 in the Dining Room at 11:30
a. m.. The theme this year is“ Sounds of the Season” and we will have a musical program to help us feel that holiday spirit. This is one of the CWA events where our members may reserve a table of eight people. Table reservation forms will be available at the November luncheon. The member organizing the table should collect the money from those at her table and then pay CWA in one check per table. The check is turned in with the form listing the names of the people to be seated at that table. The cost will be the same as last year-- $ 40 for members and $ 45 for non-members. Family and friends from inside and outside of Charbonneau are welcome. We will be serving a special buffet catered by G Gourmet. Please note that you do not have to be at a reserved table to come and enjoy the brunch. We will have open
