BOARD MEMBER OF THE MONTH - THOMAS SACHS , EIT
Hello ASCE NH ! My name is Thomas Sachs , and I am your ASCE NH Senior New England Delegate for 2022 . This will be my second year on the board of directors as I look to continue representing the New Hampshire Section at National and Region 1 meetings . I am very fortunate to be working with an amazing group of individuals and encourage younger engineers like myself to get involved with ASCE . Our events are excellent opportunities for networking and continuing education .
In 2018 , I graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a BS in Civil Engineering . Since then , I have been an Engineering Estimator for Shea Concrete Products in Amesbury , MA . As an Engineering Estimator , my job is to quote , design , manufacture , and deliver precast concrete products to many different customers . During my time with Shea , I have completed the National Precast Concrete Association ( NPCA ) Master Precaster courses . These focus on all aspects of production , safety , and leadership within a precast company .
I currently reside in my hometown of Newburyport , Massachusetts but I spend most weekends at my family ’ s cabin in Madison , NH . My first job was as a ski instructor at Mt . Cranmore in North Conway , NH . I worked each winter from 2013 to 2019 teaching all different skill levels . It was a great experience to share my passion for skiing with so many different people . This winter you will catch me carving up the slopes at both Attitash and Wildcat .
During the summer , I spend most of my free time exploring new cruising routes on my Yamaha motorcycle . I enjoy going on day trips up to Maine and New Hampshire to cruise through the mountains .
Sorry to all the dog lovers out there but I am 100 percent a cat person ( a lot of people just turned the page ). My cat Taz loves spending time outside chasing squirrels and sunbathing in the driveway . Everyone in the neighborhood knows him and they love to bring him treats . Taz gives an icy cold-shoulder when his kibble bowl is empty but is alway purring when I scoop him for bed .
I appreciate you all for taking the time to read a little bit about me . I encourage anyone interested in ASCE or wanting to join in for one of our monthly virtual meetings to contact me via email . ( tom . sachs @ sheaconcrete . com ).
