YOUNG LAWYERS SECTION YLS September Networking Event at 123 Datura
YLS members gathered for a networking event at 123 Datura on September 23 . These networking events are held monthly by YLS , usually free of charge to YLS members , and an excellent opportunity to meet other young lawyers , more seasoned lawyers , and judges in our community .
Members of YLS got together at the end of September to put together 25 care packages for children of the Guardian Ad Litem Program as part of their Lawyers Speaking Up fundraiser . Throughout the month of August , YLS raised over $ 2,500 and various donated items for the fundraiser , in addition to a grant received from the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division . All the care packages were given to Speak Up for Kids , the fundraising organization for GAL , to distribute to children who are placed in foster homes as part of the GAL Program . Thank you to the various law firm sponsors and the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division for their support in this meaningful project !
Sidebar Series
On September 29 , YLS hosted its Sidebar Series with a panel consisting of Circuit Court Judge James Nutt , Circuit Court Judge Paige Gillman , and newly-appointed County Court Judge April Bristow . This was the first part of a 3-part series on Best Practices Before the Civil Judges of the Fifteenth Circuit . Part 1 focused on Written Advocacy and Submissions for the Court , discussing how lawyers can write effectively and efficiently for the judges of the 15th Circuit . The next part of the series will be on effective oral advocacy at hearings before the judges of the 15th Circuit .
