RESIDENTIAL NEW CONSTRUCTION
“ There ’ s a lot of geometry , which is an unexpected pairing with shingle-style .”
INSIDE OUT
THE PROJECT : A greenhouse / guesthouse combo in Newport .
WHAT THE JUDGES LIKED IN 2016 : Modern , well-thought out details including pocket doors and charred cypress siding that nevertheless complement the main shingle house built in 1882 .
WHY WE LIKE IT NOW : The contrast of the light stone exterior with dark wood and huge doors that allow you to be inside and outside at the same time . With a guest house you don ’ t always feel you have privacy but that ’ s not the case here . Our staffers were also drawn to the linear design . “ There ’ s a lot of geometry , which is an unexpected pairing with shingle-style .”
