UNH Civil Engineering innovations for New Hampshire (Dr. Bell (Structures),
Dr. Benoît (Geotechnical), and Dr. Dave (Transportation Materials)
(Professors – UNH Civil Engineering Department))
Professor Jean Benoît has been at the University of New Hampshire since 1983 and served as
Department Chair for 9 years from 2001-2010. He has expertise in geotechnical, geological and
geoenvironmental engineering. Prior to his arrival at UNH, Professor Benoît worked in industry
for Woodward-Clyde Consultants on projects in the US and overseas including Egypt, Iran and
Algeria. He has published over 100 technical papers related to geotechnical engineering including
a book (in French) on drilling, boreholes and in situ geotechnical tests.
Eshan Dave is associate professor in the department of civil and environmental engineering at the
University of New Hampshire. His teaching and research background are in transportation
engineering with focus on infrastructure materials, performance based design, cold climate
roadway maintenance and operations, and life-cycle assessment.

Tammy’s professional career has included positions in healthcare, hospitality, not-for-
profit, and consulting. Tammy brings over 20 years of experience to her clients. The
majority of her current clients represent the property management, hospitality and
A/E/C (architecture, engineering and construction) industries. Tammy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with
a concentration in Human Relations and Work from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH and a Master’s Degree
in Organizational Development and Leadership from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Tammy
has extensive experience in multiple work assessments, is certified in DiSC and specializes in the Herrmann Brain
Dominance Instrument (HBDI) and The Predictive Index.

Steve Piper grew up in Keene, NH and graduated from UNH in 1984 with a B.S. in Physics. Steve
has been a NHDOT Construction Bureau employee for 34½ years.
