Register to attend the VT & NH Sections of ASCE Annual Joint Dinner Meeting on
Thursday, November 8th.
Please join us on Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 5:30 - 8:00 pm at Hotel Coolidge for a joint dinner
meeting between the Vermont and New Hampshire Sections to discuss the Vermont Institute of Natural
Science (VINS) Forest Canopy Walk. Charlie Rattigan, Executive Director of VINS, and Tom Weller, lead
project architect of Weller & Michal Architects, will present on the inspiration and background of the VINS
Forest Canopy Walk in Hartland, Vermont, the design and permitting phases, and some of the interesting
challenges they have faced as they prepare for construction of the initial elements this fall, with expected
completion in the spring of 2019. "The 300-foot-long canopy walk, which would begin behind the raptor
houses, would be at an approximate elevation of 40 feet, give or take. It would lead visitors through a
classic New England mix of hard-and softwood trees, and would offer views of the Ottauquechee River
and Dewey's Pond." (https://www.vnews.com/VINS-plans-forest-canopy-12874819).
We are excited to announce that ASCE Region 1 Governor Marco Scofidio will also be joining us and
plans to update us on the state of the Society.
