Wayne West, Spartanburg County Co-op News Editor Josh P. Crotzer, CCC 4 AT MY FAMILY’S Thanksgiving dinner each year, we all take turns saying something for which we’re grateful. My list is usually about the same—good health, wonderful family and friends, and a job serving the great people of the Upstate of South Carolina. I’m thankful to be a part of Broad River Electric Cooperative. Our employees are some of the hardest workers I know. Our mission is to provide affordable, quality services, but we also aim to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. It’s a mission we all take seriously. I’m thankful for Broad River Electric because it allows our employees to live alongside those we serve. The beauty of a cooperative is that it’s locally owned and operated; there are no distant shareholders pulling the strings behind the scenes. Members elect members to serve on the Board of Trustees and govern the co-op. We are your neighbors, your friends, your family. I’m thankful for my co-op because it serves as a vibrant force in the local economy—partly because we are local. That means Broad River Electric is invested in the future of its communities. For example, the cooperative is working with Union County to bring new industry and jobs to the Trakas Industrial Site between Highways 9 and 176. I’m thankful for my co-op because we care. From giving book bags and school supplies to young people and donating to food banks’ toy drives to reaching out to local first responders with line safety demonstrations, we care about the people and the towns we serve. Finally, I’m thankful for you, our members and faithful readers, because without you, there’d be no Broad River Electric Cooperative. Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at your electric co-op. Douglas E. Wilson President and CEO Happy holidays from our family to yours! Broad River Electric Cooperative will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29, in observance of Thanksgiving. We’ll also close on Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25, for Christmas. And we’ll close for New Year’s Day the following Wednesday. As always, emergency crews will be on standby. Please also note that this issue of South Carolina Living is a combined November-December edition. We’ll return with a new issue in January. Until then, happy holidays from Broad River Electric Cooperative! SOUTH CAROLINA LIVING? |? november/december 2013 ?|? scliving.coop
