Mt Mee Day Trip
A trip to Mt. Mee hadn’t been scheduled since early in the year so I
thought it was high time the club ventured back up there for a drive
through the mountains. It was a warm, sunny day with four families
meeting at Dayboro to begin the adventure. The tracks proved to be
very dry and dusty as we made our way up the mountain. We challenged
ourselves with a side track which required accurate wheel placement
over a deep rut before attempting a tricky exit back on to the main track.
Some careful manoeuvring and guidance was required to ensure our
cars were lined up square to a steep drop, as any other angle could have
resulted in a rollover. We came across some steep inclines at ‘A Break’
and even though the hills had plenty of grip, there were areas which
were quite stony and loose at times. We ventured to the lookout where
the clear conditions offered us a magnificent view over Somerset Dam.
We took this opportunity to stretch our legs and enjoy morning tea. We
continued on our way following the Western tracks which brought us to
a small creek crossing with clear running water. A small rutted descent
had to be negotiated carefully as wheels came off the ground to provide
some thrills. Lowered tyre pressures provided us with a smooth ride over
the sometimes rocky terrain. We headed out of the bush to the gantry
where we shared lunch with magpies, kookaburras and a goanna. After a
relaxing lunch we headed for home back through the bush, with more hills
and MORE DUST!!! Thanks to John and Lorraine, Chris and Sam, Charlie,
Peta, Ethan and Jasmine for an enjoyable day.
