dean's message

Dear CEC Family,

I am delighted to see our provost’s announcement of a founding dean for our new college, Dr. Yong Tao, who begins as dean July 1. I have stepped down from the dean’s position and my other roles at NSU to take a position in industry. I am inspired and impressed by the outstanding students I have met in my classes and at various events on-campus. I have enjoyed the opportunity that my recent roles have given me to

engage with students at all levels, as well as colleagues across the university. Thank you for your engagement!

This is undeniably an exciting time at NSU. Not only is CEC having a new beginning, we have gone public with the first capital campaign in NSU’s history: Realizing Potential (see page 10). At CEC, the goal is to raise funds for student scholarships, research facilities, and endowed faculty positions. And just a few weeks ago, we saw the opening of the Center for Collaborative Research, highlighted in the previous issue. The first tenants are from the U.S. Geological Survey who are doing work on Everglades restoration and water conservation. This year we’ll see life science researchers and cybersecurity innovators moving in. Wow, what a collaborative space!

I’m sad to leave CEC, but very happy for everything the students and faculty have accomplished and are working toward. Go SHARKS Go!

Sincerely,

Amon Seagull, Ph.D.

Interim Dean
