AS WE APPROACH ANOTHER HOLIDAY SEASON , I am reminded of the role that music plays in times of celebration . We are thrilled to welcome you to our Meyerhoff and Strathmore homes to share in the magic of the season with programs that are sure to captivate and inspire .
November is a month-long nod to one of Music Director Jonathon Heyward ’ s favorite genres , with four consecutive weeks dedicated to jazz greats and contemporary stars . Jonathon leads two of these programs that not only center on jazz , but also highlight the talents of our Orchestra in special ways . On November 8 – 10 , Principal Tuba Aubrey Foard is the featured soloist in Wynton Marsalis ’ Tuba Concerto , a piece that highlights the power and versatility of the instrument . The following weekend , Jonathon pairs Ravel ’ s jazz-inspired Piano Concerto in G with the first of three concertos for orchestra of the season , a format designed to showcase the full ensemble . We continue to bring the Orchestra to stages around the state . In addition to our return to The Clarice at University of Maryland , we are especially excited for the second installment of this season ’ s free Symphony in the City series on November 20 . Held at the War Memorial in downtown Baltimore , this concert will be a special tribute to our veterans . Symphony in the City continues to be a powerful example of our mission to be a symphony for all , and an Orchestra at the heart of civic celebrations .
And of course , the ever-popular BSO Holiday Series offers an enchanting array of performances for everyone . Whether you ’ re drawn to the elegance of Baroque classics , the dazzling spectacle of Cirque aerialists , or the heartwarming experience of Love Actually Live in Concert , our holiday programming is designed to bring joy and wonder in audiences of all ages .
We remain deeply grateful to you — our donors , patrons , and community members . Thank you for making the BSO a part of your life , and we can ' t wait to see you at these incredible events and beyond .
