LPP Compliance with the Florida Supreme Court ’ s “ Required Meeting ”

By historical background , in May 2021 , The Florida Bar created a Special Committee for the Review of Professionalism in Florida . The Special Committee ' s charge was to review the state of professionalism among Florida lawyers and develop recommendations for the Court and The Florida Bar on several areas to enhance professionalism . One of those areas was the enforcement of Florida ' s professionalism standards through the use of Local Professionalism Panels ( LPPs ).
members , SCOP has invited two featured guests to present and inspire the LPP Chairs and leaders : the Honorable Carolyn Bell , who will present Professionalism Expectations and Standards , and former Florida Bar President Gary Lesser , who will inspire and promote the 2023 Code ’ s stated purpose , “ an informal peer-to-peer mentoring process for addressing instances of unprofessional conduct ….” See In Re : Code for Resolving Professionalism Referrals , 367 So . 3d 1184 ( Fla . 2023 ), Appendix .

In replacing the 2013 Code with a new Code , one of the many improvements the Florida Supreme Court made was to mandate that “ Required Meetings ” take place every other year for the 20 LPP Chairs , or the member designated by each LPP Chair . See In Re : Code for Resolving Professionalism Referrals , 367 So . 3d 1184 ( Fla . 2023 ). To facilitate compliance with the Supreme Court ’ s mandatory LPP Chair meeting , The Florida Bar ’ s Standing Committee on Professionalism ( SCOP ) will host the very first “ Required Meeting ” for all twenty ( 20 ) of Florida ’ s Circuit Courts ’ Local Professionalism Panel (“ LPP ”) Chairs . The meeting will take place by zoom on November 18 , 2024 , from 8:30am to noon .
We appreciate the hard work of the 20 statewide LPP Chairs in meeting and improving this informal process . Unlike the formal grievance process , the LPP process is a separate , positive path of mentoring . We are grateful that so many of our Professionalism Committee members and Palm Beach County Bar Association members give their time to improving our profession and lifting up our members .

At the “ Required Meeting ,” the LPP Chairs will perform the following tasks in breakout groups : ( 1 ) review the 2023 Code and make any recommendations for change to the Florida Supreme Court , ( 2 ) review the forms used by the circuits to maintain uniformity , ( 3 ) review the procedures used by the circuits to maintain uniformity , and ( 4 ) discuss the policies and procedures of each circuit to facilitate continued enhancement of the program .
