Elementary Additions

The academic program at the elementary level witnessed some wonderful additions to benefit our students. Students in grades K-7 are now studying Latin and Greek roots as a part of their education. The study of Latin has been proven to have numerous educational benefits ranging from an expanded vocabulary to helping students understand logic within math. Our classrooms at the elementary level have also been incorporating an approach known as Nature Studies into science lessons. Nature Studies focuses on slowing down and allowing students to have an experiential encounter with the natural world so that the student’s natural curiosity and wonder, which is the foundation of science, is piqued. Early childhood and early elementary have added more poetry, and more music and movement into the classroom as well as elements from Catechesis of the Good Shepherd to give younger students more engagement in learning about the Lord. Finally, the addition of age appropriate, quality literature to the academic program creates more enjoyment for the students and helps to form their moral imagination.

Concurrent Enrollment Continues at NDCS

Notre Dame Catholic School partners with both Midwestern State University and Vernon College to provide a Concurrent/Dual Enrollment Program. The MSU ACCESS scholarship is available for students who have completed the 10th grade up to graduation. Students qualify for these programs at MSU and VC by test scores, a GPA of ‘B’ and above in all high school classes, and contract. Approximately one-third of NDCS upperclassmen take advantage of this program. NDCS students enjoy the classes on the respective campuses or can participate in the online college courses that are offered. The MSU and VC transcripts are active upon graduation and may be transferred to any college or university or may be continued at those schools.
