The Ark of the Covenant
The Ark of the Covenant was built to hold the Ten Commandments. It symbolized God's covenant with his people. It was Israel's most sacred object and was kept in the most holy place of the tabernacle.
Gen 9:8-17 describes the covenant made between God and Noah. The sign to remind us of God's promise was the rainbow sign, as God is faithful to keep his word.
Gen 17:2-8 describes God's covenant with Abraham, an everlasting covenant to him and to his seed. Circumcision was to be a token of the covenant.
Exodus 19:5-8 God restates his covenant with Israel and calls them a peculiar treasure unto himself.
Deuteronomy 5:1 describes how to fulfill the covenant.
Covenant is an agreement, usually formal between two or more persons to do or not do something specified. The covenant made was then placed in a sacred object called an Ark and protected by God himself.
