What is the role of technique in your practice? In particular are there any constraints or rules that you follow when creating?

My work is instinctive, colourful and animated by a fecund imagination which starts working inside me even before finishing a work. I love blending materials in order to get the texture for my works. I am particularly fond of Japanese paper - acrylic, my own combination that I have developed and I quite often use to create flowers and leaves. Every single item is painted and burned on Japanese paper.

For me the painting has to be a harmonious combination of soul (read colour), but also body (read texture).

I am a self –taught artist and I think art is freedom. It is very important to have a good knowledge of the techniques, but an artist should never be a prisoner of a certain style, rule, art convention or prisoner of the "good" sense. Art is meant to challenge the viewer, but also the artist. No fear about taking new paths or trying new techniques, because art cannot fail.

How do you see the relationship between emotional and intellectual perception of your work? In particular, how much do you consider the immersive nature of the viewing experience?

Here I would give the example of my first painting selected for an international exhibition: "Indian Summer". At a first sight it could be described as a serein landscape etc. Actually it is not a landscape. It speaks about the emotion that a landscape has created inside me.

In my opinion the first thing about an artwork is that it has to be lived and emotional, but to express art thoroughly, one must open his/her soul thoroughly, which makes you feel vulnerable. From this point of view I see the studio as the ultimate artist's refuge.

Nowadays the art becomes - sadly! - business, but as Leonardo da Vinci said, "where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art." The emotion is the seed, the artwork is the flower. If the result of your work brings visual joy or creates the right emotion inside the viewer, it means you have done your job well.

Thanks a lot for your time and for sharing your thoughts, Doina. Finally, would you like to tell our readers something about your future projects? How do you see your work evolving?

As any other painter, I am looking to establish links with commercial art galleries, as the goal of any artwork is to be shown, instead of being piled and collecting dust. While loving so much my artistic activity, I sometimes tend to forget the marketing should be, also, a significant part of my artistic life. But my idea of evolution does not stop here. When I said that art was a journey I was thinking, also, to my artistic path in general. I started painting in December 2016. Less than two and half years later, I have had exhibitions on two different continents, my works hang in private collections in several countries, I have got a Golden Prize for Visual Arts and one of my works is part of an European art museum. I have enjoyed every single step of the way and cherished every single moment in my studio. Yet, if you ask me what I have like most, the answer is: staying true to myself.

My artistic future starts every day. My idea of evolution is taking action to gradually reach my full artistic potential, yet showing my true self and having a lot of fun.

A huge thank you to your team, but also to all your readers for having given me a part of their precious time!
