What is the role of technique in your practice? In particular are there any constraints or rules that you follow when creating?

Since I am quite ‘untrained’ as an artist, its more of an explorative journey for me than a prescriptive one.The only rule I have for myself as an artist once a work develops is to check if it evokes a particular feeling in me, if it has a particular emotional resonance. If it does and it feels complete, I am satisfied.I experiment a lot with using different medium of application of paint to create the textures in my paintings and sometimes I paint just using my fingers, as in the case of ‘Patchwork of Desire’ or ‘Belong’ or ‘Tales from a City’.

How do you see the relationship between emotional and intellectual perception of your work? In particular, how much do you consider the immersive nature of the viewing experience?

The immersive nature of the entire experience is perhaps what forms a continuum for me right from recognizing a feeling or a memory to trying to translate it onto the canvas to attempting to connect with or inform the experience of the viewer.I always try to share my interpretations of a painting once finished next to it to share my perspective with the potential viewer because I am keenly aware of the viewing experience, however subjective.

I feel the emotional and intellectual perception of my work go hand it hand. If one is divorced from the other, it would simply not tell the tale quite so accurately and with as much resonance.

Thanks a lot for your time and for sharing your thoughts, Hinglaz. Finally, would you like to tell us readers something about your future projects? How do you see your work evolving?

Since it is a relatively new journey for me, for the next year or so I want to completely immerse myself in developing my expression as far as it can go, experiment with styles, textures and the most faithful ways of telling the story that I can. I would like to connect to art lovers globally and and have the pleasure of seeing them connect with my art. There is no greater pleasure and delight for me at this point than to see this.

My heartfelt thanks to the NotRandomArt team for giving me an opportunity to talk about my art and inspirations!
