Fine Arts Northwest
focus photojournalism
Students in Brooke Scoggins’ photojournalism class at Northwest High School recently took part in the PTA Reflections contest,
submitting their images for consideration in the national competition.
This year’s contest focused on the theme “Within Reach,” allowing students to create original works of art in the categories of dance
choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. The competition supports students across
the United States with scholarships. This year’s awardees will be announced March 1, 2018.
The photos on these pages represent some of the school’s submitted work, with the name of the student responsible next to his or her
photo. n

“I wanted to show how people are joined
together. Sometimes you need someone
to lean on, and if you just reach out,
there will be a hand there to help you
get through whatever challenge you are
facing at that time.”

“My photo symbolizes ‘within
reach,’ our theme for the PTSA
competition. Like playing a
piano, the keys are always
within reach. I took a picture
that gives the viewer the illusion
of running down the piano
keys, as hands write up and
down the keys, reaching for the
notes as you play a song.”
