Welcome to our new magazine

It is my privilege to introduce you to the inaugural edition of Northwest
Navigator. As both the superintendent of Northwest ISD and, more
importantly, as a parent of the district, I truly believe that NISD is one of
the best school districts of which my family and I have been a part. With
a visionary school board, dedicated staff and positive community, great
things are happening here, and our students are constantly amazing me
with all they can imagine and achieve.
Because it is important that all of our stakeholders (students, parents,
caregivers and community members) understand that this is your
school district as well, it is my hope that this new communication piece helps you learn more about the great things
happening in our schools. I believe communication with our parents and community is an essential part of ensuring
student success, as well as making certain that our school district is living up to the communities’ expectations.
However, I also realize that change can come at a rapid pace and communication can sometimes be a challenge in our
fast-growth district that includes 14 different communities.
Our area is drawing families from across the state and nation. In the short time my family and I have lived in this
district, the landscape has already changed. Many of you have seen a small, rural school district grow into the
sprawling, suburban district we are now. For us, the goal is to maintain a family-friendly atmosphere in culture while
providing a world-class educational experience to our more than 23,000 students.
As noted in our ongoing demographic reports, NISD experiences an increase of nearly 1,100 students each school
year, and we expect to be educating more than 35,000 students in 10 years. With strategic planning and the
community’s support, we are preparing for the growth.
Two new schools will open August 2018: Leo Adams Middle School and Elementary School No. 18. Leo Adams
Middle School is located near Eaton High School, south of Blue Mound Road and U.S. Highway 287, and will be the
district’s sixth middle school. Elementary School No. 18 will be located at F.M. 156 and U.S. Highway 287, south of
Bonds Ranch Road, and we recently began the naming process for this school.
Though we’ve had our challenges, we have experienced an amazing school year so far, and I could not be more proud
of the students and staff of Northwest ISD. With a vision of preparing future-ready students, we are focusing on
“Excellence for All,” and the impact has been amazing.
I hope you enjoy hearing more about these successes, from our students’ great creations – such as the Byron Nelson
High School solar car – to the real-world experiences students are gaining through programs such as our Creative
Media Production Academy at Northwest High School.
From our elementary staff who are helping mold students to our secondary staff who are preparing those students for
their future, we are dedicated to every child. I appreciate your support as together we prepare future-ready students. n
