Inside the Issue November 2018 SENDERA RANCH Vol 1 Issue 1 Danette Jurgens, LMS ULTIMATE BOOK CHALLENGE One hundred and eighteen students as well as ten teachers are busy reading for the Ultimate Book Challenge. All of our dedicated readers come to the library weekly for our UBC Lunch Bunch practice sessions. They are so committed that they are even willing to practice during recess! LITERATURE CONNECTIONS Students are connecting and  having fun with literature. Second graders danced with Pete the Cat on Rock Your School Day. First Graders learned about book care with The Pigeon . PACEE students made purple yarn sculpure with Harold and and his purple crayon, and second graders practiced reading fluencing with Night of the Veggie Monster reader's theatre. Curriculum Connections Storybook character dress up day and Mary Poppins centers in the library gave second grade students an opportunity to review lessons of the week like creating original constellations, finding as many of their spelling words as they could in the word "supercalafrajalistickexpialadousjus" and using standard and nonstandard measurements to measure "chim chimneys". Other curriculum connections made in the library included fifth grade book tastings by genre and third grade's Poetry Cafe. PROBLEM SOLVING BREAKOUTS We love using Breakout Boxes for problem solving. Fifth grade students had  to break their library cards out of the box. Fourth graders had a monster of a challenge discovering the combinations to their "It's Alive" Breakout game.
