November 2018 ROANOKE Vol 1 Issue 1 Kelley Valdez, LMS Inside the Issue BOOK CARE IN KINDER Book care, personification, speech bubbles, and apps...Oh My!  As our newest Rangers, our Kindergarten students are learning the best ways to take care of their library books.  We have been working to produce talking books to instruct our library patrons on the Do's and Don'ts of taking care of a library book.   BOOKCREATOR We are writers!  Our first grade students are actively working on creating How-To's and learning the ins and outs of using a Chromebook.  We were introduced to Bookcreator.com, where we learned how to use the program to create our very own online books.  The students are super excited to get to work and to possibly have their book added to our online library catalog. WHAT? NO BLUE CART! In the movie Spiderman, we learned "with great power comes great responsibility."  Our 2nd grade learners found out that the higher the grade level the more responsibility you have in the library.  Second grade students used Google Classroom and Pear Deck to learn and explore their new job of returning their books on top of the shelves in which they live.  The students loved the interactive approach to the lesson through the use of Pear Deck.  Students were able to show their thinking using text and drawings.  We were also able to share our work easily with others and quickly receive feedback on our performance.  We learned that sorting books in our library requires the math skills of comparing and ordering numbers on a numberline.   The 2nd graders are excited to master their new job! ORGANIZING GOOGLE DRIVE With a little help from Mercer Mayer and Little Critter, 4th and 5th grade students learned to organize their Google Drives using folders, colors, and stars.  Our hope is that these strategies help us become more effective and efficient users of Google Drive.
