The country has had a long history in aerospace , dating back to 1965 with its first Tech Park , the Barreira do Inferno Launch Center . It was here that Brazil entered the space race , launching its first rocket prototype two years later . More recently , the Alcântara Tech Park has become a center for space activities , given its proximity to the equator , which is ideal for specific missions .
The São José dos Campos Tech Park : The Largest Aerospace Cluster in Latin America
Another prominent tech park is the São José dos Campos Tech Park , which is located northwest of São Paulo , Brazil ’ s largest city , and houses approximately 300 companies from nine different sectors . This park is the largest aerospace cluster in Latin America and focuses on two major sectors : aerospace and defense , and technology of innovation and communication . The park offers 1,941 different jobs , and has eight universities and four institutes of science and technology with more than 4,800 students .
