ot all of the work is for aerospace
customers. The company makes every-
thing from foam core for automobile load
floors, to packing materials for nuclear
fuel rods. General Plastics also produces a
whole lot of foam that’s shaped into plastic
foam signage.
“It’s a very versatile material and we con-
tinue to develop customer formulations for
our customer’s needs,” Johnson said.
Business has been strong for General
Plastics, in both aerospace and commercial
applications. Like many companies, one
of its biggest challenges is finding enough
highly skilled workers to fill its openings.
“We’re not just turning the crank and
pushing the buttons,” Johnson said. “For
every 10 resumes we get one interview.
We really need to look at can we find the
labor we need to expand locally.”
