AEROSPACE FUTURES ALLIANCE SPOTLIGHT
AFA directly represents the needs of aerospace
companies to members of Congress. Throughout CARES
Act negotiations, AFA worked with Washington’s congressional
delegation to ensure that aerospace suppliers
were eligible for federal recovery funds. Rallied by AFA,
countless companies told their stories to senators and
representatives nationwide. These first-hand accounts
were critical to our elected officials, bringing personal
perspective to technical policy negotiations.
Together, we achieved tangible results for our industry.
We achieved relief for airports impacted by
COVID-19. Washington’s airports received 310 million
dollars in funding to mitigate the impact of COVID-19.
Over 62 airports throughout the state received funds,
including Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Spokane
International Airport, and Paine Field. Not all airports
received due recourse, however, and AFA continues to
advocate for them in the federal rulemaking process.
We secured funds for businesses critical to maintaining
national security. The final bill included 17 billion
dollars in loans to businesses critical to national security
– including aerospace suppliers. Again, federal rulemaking
may limit access to relief for some companies. AFA
is working to ensure that the program is implemented as
Congress intended and all businesses critical to maintaining
our nation’s security are eligible.
We ensured that 14 CFR Part 145 Repair Stations
received benefits. AFA worked with 14 CFR Part 145
repair station operators to ensure eligibility for federal
recovery grants and loans.
We advocated for small business recovery and
resilience. Many AFA members are small businesses
as defined by the U.S. Small Business Administration
(fewer than 500 employees) and qualify for recovery
funds. These companies have access to the Paycheck
Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loans.
AFA has fielded numerous questions from applicants
regarding these programs and continues to advocate for
federal relief.
Recruiting procurement opportunities for medical
devices. AFA is actively recruiting procurement opportunities
in the medical device market. Medical device
manufacturing is not only a humanitarian effort for our
companies, it is also a job retention strategy.
