Peter-Bart Rutten, a structures engineer in
Everett, Washington, often volunteered at STEM
events before the stay-at-home orders. “Kids can
really benefit from seeing that these things are
achievable, that they have much more potential
than they sometimes see themselves,” he said. “For
me as ‘teacher’ it is great to see that ‘Hey, we can
do this’ moment.”
FUTURE U resources are also available to
educators to help them supplement their lesson
plans with hands-on STEM activities. New design
challenges and activities for at-home and classroom
use will be added to the FUTURE U website
regularly.
“We want students to be excited about what we do
at Boeing,” Crews said. “It’s important for students
to learn the STEM concepts and how they might be
able to use that knowledge as part of a career.”
