“ Our facility is equipped to do everything from small trim parts on the interior of an aircraft all the way to extremely large tooling components used to assemble the wing of a 777X ,”
VanWerven explains . “ We know what we know and are able to work with our customers across a broad field .”
While other machine shops might provide a number of components for a large assembly , Newell ’ s wide range of capabilities gives them the ability to machine and fabricate the parts and do many assemblies on-site before delivering a finished product to the customer .
Each building at the Newell Corporation is equipped with heavy duty cranes that provide overhead lifting capacity between 16 and 60 tons . Even the forklifts used to transport raw materials and finished goods at Newell are supersized . While a standard forklift can pick up 5,000 pounds , the heavy duty machines Newell operates can lift 90,000 pounds .
In fact , sometimes the limiting factor in the size of a project is not Newell ’ s ability to hoist and move heavy materials or manufacture a part . Rather , it ’ s the ability to transport the very large finished product from the Arlington facility to the customer .
“ Customers often design a product on a CAD program on their computer and it doesn ’ t seem all that big . There are times when we work with a customer and we tell them that we can machine a part as one piece , but we ’ ll have to cut it in half so it can fit on a truck ,” said VanWerven .
