This advocacy extends beyond individual companies to the collective needs of the industry , ensuring legislators and policymakers understand the deep , multifaceted contributions of aerospace to Washington ’ s economy and workforce .
One of AFA ’ s cornerstone events is our annual Aerospace on the Hill Day . Tuesday , January 28 , 2025 , Washington industry leaders gather in Olympia to meet directly with state legislators . This event is a unique opportunity for businesses to share their stories , highlight their innovations , and emphasize the importance of aerospace , including space and sustainable aviation , to Washington ’ s economic landscape . These interactions are more than just meetings — they are crucial conversations that showcase impacts of aerospace companies on communities and help to ensure that state leaders understand the depth of the sector .
The future of aerospace depends on today ’ s students — from recent high school grads to those seeking a career in the skilled trades to follow their passion . We must be deeply committed to workforce development , recognizing that the industry ’ s long-term success hinges on a highly skilled , enthusiastic talent pool . Connecting students with the aerospace and space sector is vital — not only to inspire the next generation but also to ensure they see viable , exciting career paths in aerospace .
Here in Washington State , we have incredible programs such as the Washington Aerospace Training & Research Center ( WATR Center ) and Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeships ( AJAC ) that work hand in hand with our industry , helping to elevate the quality of our incoming talent . Career Connect Washington ( CCW ) is a statewide initiative that works to bridge the gap between education and high demand , high wage jobs within Washington . CCW helps to fund programs to support the aerospace industry ’ s workforce needs in every corner of our state .
