Washington State Needs Space to Grow

It was April 12 , 1981 . There was no way I was going to school . The Space Shuttle Columbia was poised to launch on its maiden voyage . I was glued to the TV . Never before , and never since , has anyone dared to put humans on the first flight of a brand new space vehicle . It was the most audacious test flight in history . It captured my imagination , and it changed my life .
From that day forward , space has been my driving passion . In college , I majored in aerospace engineering . Upon graduation , my technical skills were put to good use on classified military space projects and the space station program . Convinced that the private sector would best accelerate the exploration and development of space , I then joined a small company working on early space commercialization initiatives .
