“ I was really surprised how well it went . I looked during the day ( on the virtual platform ) and there was activity in message boards , people had posted jobs , topics for discussions , and there was a lot of ‘ virtual ’ schmoozing going on ,” she added . They offered it in a virtual format again in 2021 and will do so on April 7 , 2022 .

Proof is in the participant stories
Igor Novosselov has been a JCATI project faculty lead for three years . He works as a Research Associate Professor at University of Washington in the Department of Mechanical Engineering . He said that he feels this is a great solution for the students and for private industry to develop new technologies . “ We have state-of-the-art technologies and manufacturing facilities ,” he said . He noted that industry should apply for JCATI grants because it can help them to take ideas to market . “ It gives them great leveraging ability to use academic resources ,” he added .
Currently Novosselov is supervising 10 graduate and 20 undergraduate students . They are working on a COVID-related project with Control Dynamics , Inc . ( CDI ) on “ Non-thermal plasma decontamination system for viral particles on complex surfaces .” He said , “ Hopefully this will transition to market . It takes time to develop scientific aspects and move to commercialization .” He added , “ There is a manufacturing readiness level ,” when working with JCATI on a project .
Novosselov ’ s industry partner and main contact with CDI is Joseph Fletcher , director of technology integration and college relations . Fletcher had a long career with Boeing and has worked in a strategic format with universities for about 15 years .
